Rest Area at New Kent, Virginia Department of Transportation

To effectively welcome visitors to Virginia for 2007 Commemoration events, VDOT needed a replacement Rest Area facility off Interstate 64 Westbound at New Kent
The all-new facility, constructed on the same site as the current rest area, uses the existing vehicle parking areas and preserves the site’s mature, wooded landscaping
The Rest Area achieved a LEED-NC Gold Certification by using a ground-source geothermal HVAC system and by harvesting rainwater from the roof for non-potable use, among other features
Cost: $5.056 million
